AbstractDysphagia is common among the elderly, particularly in residential care home settings, but the condition has remained underdiagnosed. At an interview with MIMS Doctor, Dr James Luk, Immediate Past President of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society, and Mr Raymond Fong, Speech Therapist at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, discussed optimal management of dysphagia in the elderly, the role of standardized puree products in overcoming practical challenges in dysphagia management, and the value of careful hand feeding as a preferred alternative to tube feeding in older individuals with dysphagia or eating problems.
