Teaching Jyutping to non-Chinese-speaking secondary school students in Hong Kong

摘要This chapter outlines a 13-week intervention program that aims at teaching Chinese typing using the Cantonese Jyutping romanization to non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students in Hong Kong. In particular, the implementation of the intervention program and how it was modified after each test-run to work around different pedagogical and linguistic issues will be discussed. Jyutping is indispensable for effective teaching of Chinese as a second language in Hong Kong, and our experience should help remove obstacles to integrate Jyutping into the curriculum.
