摘要Significant urbanization has taken place in China in the reform period. It is important to understand the driving force of urbanization in China at national, regional and local scales. This paper aims to analyze the determinants of state-sponsored and spontaneous urbanization in Fujian province of China in the period of 2000-2010. Multivariate statistical analysis is conducted based on 67 county-level units. Various explanatory variables are employed and grouped into five categories, describing administrative, demographic, social, and economic conditions. It is found that administrative rank has significant impact on dual-track urbanization. The initial level of urbanization has positive influences on state-sponsored urbanization and spontaneous urbanization. The levels of development and industrialization have great impacts on state-sponsored urbanization and spontaneous urbanization, respectively. Nonagricultural economic structure and economic growth rate play key roles in the process of spontaneous urbanization. The paper helps better understanding of the urbanization process in China.
