Functional Role of TRPC5 in Platelets

摘要Platelets are tiny, anuclear cells derived from bone marrow megakaryocytes. They play an essential role in thrombosis and hemostasis. Dysfunction or abnormal number of platelets could result in a variety of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. TRPC5 is a nonselective Ca2+ permeable ion channel which belongs to the transient receptor potential channel family. In preliminary studies, we identified a novel function of TRPC5 channels in promoting blood coagulation. However, the underlying mechanisms are not understood. Thus, we expect this study to figure out how TRPC5 participate in blood coagulation and to help us develop novel therapies for ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disorders.
