Using genomic and molecular tools to exploring soybean genome for crop improvement

摘要Soybean is an important cash crop for food and feed. Wild soybeans are unique genetic resources for identification of important genes that can be used in crop improvement programs. We employed state-of-the-art whole genome sequencing technology to investigate soybean genome. We demonstrated the high biodiversity of wild soybean genomes and successfully identified the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that regulate important agronomic traits. Using combined genomic, genetic, and molecular biology approaches, we identified a casual gene from a major salt tolerance QTL. We also established various research platforms for functional analysis of target genes. The ultimate goal is to make the best use of germplasm resources to assist soybean breeding programs.
