摘要Background: To improve the quality of care in intensive care units (ICU), a valid and reliable measurement tool is essential. This study aims to examine the factor structure of the 24-item Chinese versions of the Patient and Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit (P/FS-ICU24) in Chinese ICU patients. Method: We recruited 252 ICU patients (mean age: 57.9 (13.0) years) and their family members (mean age: 48.4 (14.3) years) to complete the respective questionnaires after the patients were discharged from ICU to the general wards. Confirmatory factor analyses were used to examine the underlying structure of the questionnaires. Results: High internal consistency was found (α > .90). A 3-factor satisfaction structure (ICU care, decision-making and information given) gave a better fit (PS-ICU24: CFI = .929, TLI = .913 and RMSEA = .064 and FS-ICU24: CFI = .914, TLI = .897 and RMSEA = .071) than the original 2-factor structure. Conclusion: Both Patient and Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit questionnaires (P/F-ICU24) demonstrated high internal consistency and acceptable construct validity properties when using the 3-factor structure in a Hong Kong ICU setting. Impact: Understanding the major domains of the quality of care in ICU from the perspectives of patients and their relatives will help improve ICU services. Specific strategies can be developed to address low factor scores as part of a quality improvement project in ICUs.
