AbstractChina has explicitly recognized the legal status of charitable trusts in its Trust Law since 2001. However, due to the absence of operational details, charitable trusts have remained stagnant in practice. The Charity Law later promulgated in 2016 provides more specific and practicable regulations for charitable trusts, which has revived this sector and marked a significant milestone. This article first examines China’s charitable trust industry and indicates the progress achieved by the new law. It then highlights the advantages of charitable trust as an efficient form to promote philanthropy. Lastly, it discusses unresolved problems and looks at future developments
