AbstractThis research aims to study how participants' perception of efficiency in coordinating with their romantic partner may influence the extent to which they outsource goal pursuit to their partner. To achieve this goal, we first created a scale to capture the perceived efficiency in goal coordination. Using dyadic designs, we further examined how participants' perceived efficiency may predict goal support they sought and received from the relationship. We finally tested how perceived efficiency may be influenced by actor's and partner's personal characteristics (e.g., self-control and materialism). The results shed light to the transactive goal dynamics.
