AbstractDevelopment of therapeutic strategies to protect the heart against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is of great clinical importance. Due to the critical role of endothelial cells in myocardial I/R injury, vascular endothelium becomes an attractive target for post-ischemic myocardial protection. Recent advances in understanding the molecular mechanisms responsible for endothelial injury lay the foundation for future development of novel strategies targeting endothelium for prevention and/or treatment of myocardial I/R injury.
