摘要

Reported
here are conjugated polycyclic arenes that contain seven-membered rings,
detailing their synthesis, structures and properties. Seven-membered rings can
stabilize holes injected into p-type
organic semiconductors by forming the aromatic cycloheptatrienyl cation and
give rise to saddle-shaped π-molecules with negative curvature. Dibenzo[d,d’]
benzo[1,2-a:4,5-a’]dicycloheptenes (DBBDC) derivatives 1a-1c have a nearly flat C6-C7-C6-C7-C6
polycyclic framework with a p-quinodimethane
core.[1] Benzo[4,5]cyclohepta[1,2-b] fluorine (BCF) derivatives 2a and 2b have a C6-C5-C6-C7-C6
polycylic framework and are found to exhibit broad absorptions extending into
near-IR region. [2] Both 1a and 2a function as p-type semiconductors in organic thin
film transistors with field-effect mobilities up to 0.76 and 0.025 cm2/Vs,
respectively. We also
reported two new heptagon-embedded nonplanar π-conjugated
molecules, which can be regarded as
synthetic precursors of hepta-peri-heptabenzo-[7]circulene, an
interesting but unknown polycyclic arene with negative curvature.
