Effects of different inert gas ambient on the formation and ESR spectra of carbon nanotubes

摘要Carbon nanotubes were prepared by the de are-discharge method under a controlled helium or argon pressure ranging from 10 to 80 kPa and observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Purification of the nanotubes were performed by oxidation in air at 770 degrees C until about 1% of the initial weight remained. The room temperature electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of the crude and purified nanotubes were measured. The variations with the He or Ar pressure in the size distribution of the crude carbon nanotubes from TEM observations were compared, and the variations in the ESR parameters with the gas ambient and pressure were studied.
