Exploring a northern Jiangsu county Intangible Cultural Heritage archive
Chapter in an edited book (author)

Other information
AbstractThis chapter introduces an official collection of Intangible Cultural Heritage materials that the author found and thoroughly examined in a Jiangsu province county archive. It discusses why and how these grassroots materials were collected and how they might be used for historical research on local society and religion. It also emphasizes the ways that the political context shapes fieldwork research and the collecting of documents in localities in China in a manner that helps us better appreciate the value of officially promoted projects such a Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), while remaining cognizant of their limitations.
