摘要Building on the tripartite model of risk perception, this study acknowledges the current research gap in risk communication and compares three fundamental dimensions of risk perception. Online survey was conducted shortly after the outburst of a substandard vaccine incident in China (n = 454). Results of the confirmatory factor analysis show that the tripartite model exhibits significantly better model fit than both single-factor and dual-factor constructs of risk perception. Moreover, the message stimuli specifically designed for a pre-post test have primed a significant change in experiential perception but not in the other two components, thus capturing the highly controversial gap between experiential and affective risk perception. In addition, the three dimensions of risk perception exhibit different patterns of association with the behavioral intention, demonstrating once again the discriminant validity of tripartite model. Implications of the findings are finally discussed.
